IMM Interlock — Smart safety for modern wheelchair lift conversions.

What IMM Interlock Does

Your vehicles can’t afford to be “almost compliant.” IMM Interlock ties lift operation into the vehicle’s shifter, door, and parking brake logic, helping ensure the vehicle remains in place when the lift is deployed or not safely stowed. Engineered for wheelchair-accessible vehicles, it delivers consistent, predictable performance that drivers, fleets, and inspectors can rely on.

Key benefits

  • Compliance made practical: Supports FMVSS 404 requirements for preventing drive-off and unsafe vehicle movement during lift use.
  • Installer-friendly: Clean wiring, clear logic, and documentation tailored for mobility dealers and commercial upfitters.
  • Digital by design = fewer headaches: Uses modern vehicle data networks instead of wear-prone analog workarounds, reducing troubleshooting and callbacks.

How IMM Interlock Works

IMM Interlock sits quietly in the background, watching key vehicle signals and only allowing motion when it’s safe to do so.

1. Activating the Interlock

With the engine off or running, activation is the same:

  • Set the gear shifter to Park
  • Engage the Parking brake
  • Open the designated door (side or rear where the lift is located)

You’ll hear two short beeps, confirming the Interlock is active. The wheelchair lift lights illuminate, indicating the lift is ready for operation.

2.Safeguarding against drive-off

While the lift door is open, the Interlock is active:

  • If the brake pedal is pressed, an audible solid tone alert will sound and continue until the pedal is released.
  • If an attempt is made to shift out of Park while the alert is sounding, the system is designed to immobilize the vehicle: on Sprinters, the engine will shut off and the transmission will automatically shift back into Park; on Ford vehicles, the shifter lever will lock in Park.
  • The lift continues to receive the Interlock activation signal, allowing the user to restart the engine if needed without losing lift function.

This behavior helps prevent drive-off or unsafe movement while the lift is in use or not safely stowed.

3. Deactivating the Interlock

To return the vehicle to normal driving operation:

  • Stow the lift.
  • Close the designated door.
  • Disengage the parking brake.
  • Once these steps are complete, the Interlock deactivates, and standard vehicle operation can resume.

Custom functionality—such as monitoring all doors or specific doors only—can be provided upon request.
